Regular readers of this blog will know I’m a Watford fan. I try not to write about them very often because there are a number of other writers out there doing a great job, most notably From The Rookery End. But, there are issues at Vicarage Road that non Watford fans should be aware of, as they could be replicated at any of the numerous clubs changing hands from one mysterious owner to another.
To bring you up to speed, Watford’s relatively new owner, Laurence Bassini, has so far failed to provide anything resembling a long-term plan or vision for the club. Fans don’t know why he bought the club, or what he plans to do with it, and events came to a head the other week when Bassini failed to show for the fans forum. At this point Graham Taylor (or ‘God’ as he’s known in Watford), waded in, letting his own frustrations with Bassini get the better of him. Bassini got mad, and the local press had plenty to write about. But, now that the dust has settled, we still don’t have the answers we need. I wrote a brief comment about it for When Saturday Comes, please give it a read here.
